Amazon India is gearing up for an entry into the burgeoning quick commerce segment, taking on established players such as Swiggy Instamart, Blinkit, and Zepto. For now, the company is piloting the service in Bengaluru.

This move will also place it in direct competition with its arch-rival, Flipkart, which recently launched its quick commerce service, ‘Minutes,’ in a few cities.

India will be the debut market for Amazon’s quick commerce service.

“Our strategy has always focused on “Selection, Value and Convenience” and our vision is to build a large profitable business in India. So, while we focus on implementing our strategy to offer the largest selection at fastest speeds and greatest value to customers in every single pin-code across the country, we are excited to start a pilot to give our customers a choice to get their everyday essentials in 15 min or less. We already have millions of customers across India including Prime Members who trust us and will look forward to this convenience,” said Samir Kumar, Country Manager, Amazon India in a statement to Entrackr.

TechCrunch reported the development first.

The move aligns with Amazon’s broader vision of expanding its reach to every pin code in India. The quick commerce model will likely leverage Amazon’s extensive logistics network.

While the pilot’s other specifics remain under wraps, Amazon’s move is expected to intensify competition among both established players and new entrants.

According to a recent study by Motilal Oswal, Blinkit dominates the quick commerce market with a 46% share, followed by Zepto at 29% and Swiggy Instamart at 25%.

In addition to groceries and other essentials, quick commerce platforms are also competing in the delivery of medicines. Recently, Swiggy Instamart partnered with e-pharmacy company PharmEasy to offer 10-minute medicine delivery. Meanwhile, Flipkart is reportedly preparing to enter the space, and BigBasket is planning to deliver medicines through a partnership with 1mg, a subsidiary of Tata Digital.
